Recently, the second phase of the historical and cultural block project themed on “Old Nanning - Three Streets and Two Lanes” introduced well-known historical landmarks such as the Cangxi Gate Tower and the Shuitajiao Water Tower to citizens. At the same time, citizens and tourists can experience the prosperous scene of ancient markets in Nanning by visiting Guofeng Street Market under the gate tower.
It is understood that Cangxi Gate, also known as Zhenyuan Gate, was built in the Song Dynasty. It is located at the junction of Minsheng Road and Jiefang Road. As the rebuilt ancient gate tower in the second phase of the “Three Streets and Two Lanes” project, the newly-built Cangxi Gate has restored the traditional ancient architectural features of Lingnan (South of the Five Ridges) to a high degree, and is an important historical memory of Nanning. The Shuitajiao Water Tower at Xinhua Street behind the Cangxi Gate was built in 1934 and is 35.1 meters high. It was the highest landmark of the city that year. The return of city landmarks such as the Cangxi Gate Tower highlights the historical and cultural heritage of the city. While optimizing the visual image of the city, it also gives the city a new attitude and new vitality.
