The General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China recently announced the shortlist of 10-gigabit optical network pilot projects. Five communities in Guangxi were selected as "10-gigabit Communities", including Xiangyu Central Community in Qingxiu District and Hupan Shuyuan Community in Nanning.
The 10-gigabit optical network is the upgrade and evolution direction of the next-generation optical network and an important component of the new information infrastructure. After various units' independent application, local selection and recommendation, expert appraisal and review, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has identified 168 shortlisted projects for the 10-gigabit optical network pilot project, covering "10-gigabit communities", "10-gigabit parks", and "10G factories". This time, all selected pilot projects in Nanning are "10G Communities", which means that residents in the pilot areas of "10-gigabit communities" are expected to enjoy smoother online surfing. It is learned that some users in the communities will also pilot the 5000Mbps and above home broadband packages, with tested broadband downstream access rates meeting the standards and upstream access rates not less than 1000Mbps. The pilot project will also develop 10-gigabit optical network services such as cloud storage, cloud computing, cloud gaming, UHD video, glasses-free 3D, and health preservation based on optical sensing.
