The opening of the ground floor plaza of the Bell and Drum Tower marks a significant step in the grand unveiling of the Zhongshan Road Historical and Cultural Block for Yongzhou Ancient City. As a testament to the economic development of ancient Nanning, the Bell and Drum Tower exudes a harmonious blend of historical charm and urban vibrancy, creating a unique fusion of past and present. It has become a popular spot for locals and tourists.

In 2022, Nanning launched the Zhongshan Road Historical and Cultural Block for Yongzhou Ancient City, aimed at revitalizing the historic neighborhood. The renovated Zhongshan Road is envisioned as an “immersive culinary hub”, blending the charm of the ancient city with cultural tourism and consumer experiences. This transformation upgrades it from a traditional night market to a vibrant historical and cultural block. Additionally, it will integrate seamlessly with the San Jie Liang Xiang Historical and Cultural Block and Shuijie Street, forming a unified brand under the “Yongzhou Ancient City” label with coordinated management and operations.

So far, the construction of Zhongshan Road Primary School at Zhongshan Road Historical and Cultural Block for Yongzhou Ancient City was completed and handed over for use on September 1, 2024, and the Bell and Drum Tower has been finished, with its ground floor plaza now open to the public. Construction work is ongoing along the main streets of Zhongshan Road, Gonghe Road, and Minzu Road. The entire project is expected to be fully completed and operational by the end of 2025.
