Recently, it has been reported that Guangxi has included 36 medications for outpatient treatment of rare diseases in its separate outpatient insurance coverage scheme. This initiative benefits patients suffering from 27 rare diseases, including multiple sclerosis, narcolepsy, and myasthenia gravis. With this adjustment, the total number of medications covered under this scheme in Guangxi now reaches 72.
Starting in June, the newly added 36 medications for outpatient treatment of rare diseases will be fully covered under the new policy. Adhering to a principle of low-level initiation, no deductible will be required for insured individuals' outpatient special drug expenses incurred at designated medical institutions. The costs will be shared between the medical insurance pooling fund and the insured individuals. Specifically, for the resident medical insurance, the pooling fund will cover 50% of the costs. For employee medical insurance, the coverage ratio by the pooling fund will be 70% for in-service employees and 75% for retirees.
