Recently, the Drama “A Dream like A Dream” (Yanghua Edition) has made its debut at Fuzhou Strait Culture and Art Center, marking the start of its nationwide tour. Within a short period of two days, the ticket office exceeds 3 million yuan. Nanning, the next stop of the tour, is expected to see the drama staged on October 28th and 29th.
Directed and written by acclaimed director Stan Lai, the Yanghua Edition of “A Dream like A Dream” tells the story of a patient with an undiagnosed terminal disease who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. The play explores themes of pursuit, death, suffering, liberation, and the repetitive patterns of life. It takes the audience on a journey that spans Taipei, Paris, Normandy and Shanghai, starting from the protagonist’s final moments, namely, the end of the 20th century, and traveling back to the beginning of the century. This journey from Asia to Europe, from life to death, and from suffering to liberation is full of possibilities... The 8-hour play makes audience travel beyond time and space, go through the lifetime of the protagonist twice and intertwine dreams and reality. Although the play lasts a little long, it is so wonderful that the audience get fully absorbed and almost lose the track of time, as if it goes to the end at a blink.
