Rice popcorn candy
Rice popcorn candy is one of the traditional Chinese New Year foods for Binyang people because they believe that the round popcorn candy symbolizes "family reunion". The traditional handmade popcorn candy is made by decocting brown sugar in the ancient way -- mixing it with malt sugar and ginger powder, and then mixing it with fried glutinous rice popcorn. After several processes, it is squeezed into fist-sized ball by hand, and then ready to be eaten after cooling. When you nibble at it, the sweet brown sugar and the fragrance of rice popcorn linger over your tongue with the familiar flavor. It could be eaten directly or brewed with hot water to present a different flavor.
Sesame pancake
In Binyang, sesame pancake is also one of the necessities for the Spring Festival. It is made of glutinous rice as the skin, brown sugar as the filling, and a layer of black sesame dotted on the surface. Firstly, hammer the dough flat and put it on the iron pan, and then heat it until it turns golden on both sides. After all processes, it will become crispy and sweet. In addition to being shared by family members in the festive atmosphere or as a tribute for worshipping ancestors and gods, sesame pancake can also be used as a gift for visiting relatives and friends because the sesame implies that "may your luck rise like the sesame blossom".
