Affected by the global economic downturn, Nanning’s foreign trade is faced with a severe situation, and presented an obvious fall since December 2008. But entering May, 2009, Nanning’s foreign trade situation turned a little better, and the total amount of import and export increased by 6.18% on year-on-year basis, which was another increase since it occurred in February.

According to the statistics by the customs office, Nanning’s total amount of import and export in May 2009 was 179.72 million USD, an increase of 6.18% on year-on-year basis. Of the total, the amount of export was 163.32 million USD, an increase of 15.52% on year-on-year basis, and import, 16.41 million USD, a fall by 41.14% on year-on-year basis, thus realizing 164.91 million USD of favorable balance of trade. Nanning’s total amount of import and export January to May was 704.4 million USD, a slight fall of 2.8% on year-on-year basis, and export was 606.38 million USD and import 98.03 million USD, an increase of 0.3% and fall of 18.1% respectively on year-on-year basis, thus realizing an accumulated amount of 508.35 million USD of favorable balance of trade.
