According to the Nanning Customs, the total import-export volume of the nine provinces in the mainland of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region (PPRDR) from January to May reached US$ 262.66 billion, down by 20.9% over the previous year, 3.8 percentage points lower than the national decrease. Of the total, the exports were US$ 158.74 billion and the imports were US$103.92 billion, down by 17.7% and 25.3% respectively, resulting in a trade surplus of US$54.83 billion. As for Guangxi, the total imports and exports amounted to US$4.4 billion, down by 17.3% over the previous year, ranking the fourth of the nine provinces. In May alone, the exports of Guangxi reached US$ 560 million and imports US$500 million, with link relative ratio growing 11.6% and 9.8% respectively, having the best performance among the nine provinces.

During the first five months, Guangdong, number-one province in foreign trade in China, had fewer and fewer international orders as a result of the worldwide financial crisis. The foreign trade in the whole PPRDR thus slowed down significantly. However, the global economic integration still deepens and the international industries continue to be divided and transferred, which, in addition to the national policies and measures recently taken to support foreign trade, will change the situation of foreign trade of PPRDR for the better in the second half year.
