On the morning of June 23, the kick-off ceremony of the construction of seven transportation projects was held. The total investment of these projects will be over 50 billion yuan. This strategic development of transportation will build up the area into a one-hour-travel-time city cluster with Nanning as the center.
The constructions of the seven major projects were started respectively in Qinzhou, Nanning, Liuzhou, Guigang and Beise after the ceremony. These projects are to renovate and increase the transportation capacities of the railways from Qinzhou to Beihai, from Qinzhou to Fangchengang, from Debao to Jingxi and from Nanning to Litang, construct the expressway around Nanning and the expressway from Wuzhou to Guigang, improve the capacity of Liujiang River waterway. On June 14 the construction of the expressway from Mailing to Hezhou was kicked off. Altogether eight new major transportation projects were brought under construction with a total investment of over 50 billion yuan.
The four railways under construction cover a distance of 299.7 kilometers with an investment of 27.578 billion yuan. The Nanning-Litang Railway with a distance of 93.493 kilometers is an important part of Nanning-Guangzhou Railway The design speed is 250 kilometers/hour with a total investment of 13.82 billion yuan It will be completed in 3.5 years. When these railways are completed, they will greatly facilitate the flows of people, materials and information in Guangxi and play an important role in constructing the 1.5-hour-travel-time economic area with Nanning as the center. No matter which city of the area one is in, he/she will feel in the same city.
In addition to the railway projects, Guangxi endeavors to improve its roads and waterways. The expressway around Nanning and the expressway from Wuzhou to Guigang are under construction, and the Liujiang River waterway is also under renovation. The expressway around Nanning is an important part of Guangzhou-Kunming Expressway with a distance of 70.456 kilometers. The design speed of this four-lane and two-direction expressway is 120 kilometers/hour. The total investment is 4.5 billion yuan. The completion of the project will improve Guangxi’s expressway network and play an important role in building up the one-hour-travel-time city cluster area in the Beibu Gulf economic zone. At the same time it will promote Nanning’s development and strengthen Guangxi’s position in the national transportation network as a key passageway to ASEAN countries.
