About 700 kilometers from Bangkok, Chiang Mai Province is located in northern Thailand, with 310 meters above sea level. Covering an area of 20,107 square kilometers, it has a population of approximately 1.74 million (according to the data from December 2017). Chiang Mai Province has jurisdiction over 25 counties, 204 towns, and 2,066 villages. Chiang Mai borders Myanmar on the north, across Chiang Rai Province on the northeast from Laos. It is the second largest city in Thailand and the political, economic and cultural center of North Thailand. As a historic city, Chiang Mai was built in 1296 AD and is historically known as the Kingdom of Lanna. It has a history of over 700 years and has given birth to a rich variety of cultures. Chiang Mai hosts folk festivals with strong ethnic characteristics every year, such as the Songkran Festival, the Loy Krathong Festival and the Flower Festival. In addition, the transportation and communication facilities in Chiang Mai are convenient. There are numerous hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. Its people are warm and hospitable, which attracts a large number of tourists to visit and shop.
