Recently, according to the Nanning Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, the rice-crayfish industry in Nanning grew rapidly. As of July this year, the area for Nanning’s rice-crayfish farming is about 18,000 mu, with an output of about 1,800 tons, which has quadrupled year-on-year. The comprehensive output value of rice-crayfish farming is more than 89 million yuan. The annual output is expected to go beyond 3,000 tons, with a comprehensive output value of over 150 million yuan.
The rice in the rice-crayfish field can only be harvested once per year, but the crayfish can be cultivated two or three times per year. The co-cultivation of rice and crayfish will bring a comprehensive output value of more than 6,000 yuan per mu and a net income of 4,000 yuan per mu, which are 10 to 15 times the benefits of the planting of rice. It will increase income and exert a positive effect on stabilizing grain production. Crayfish farming in Nanning is not affected much by winter, so it solves the crayfish shortage in the domestic market in winter and spring. The average price of crayfish is more than 60 yuan per kilogram, which indicates that the benefits of rice-crayfish farming are significant.
