Lately, the EU Council authorized signature of the agreement between China and the EU on geographical indications. This is the first significant bilateral trade agreement signed between China and the EU. The two sides will select, nominate and screen out the geographical indications (GIs) products based on the popularity, exports and economic efficiency, so as to mutually recognize and protect the confirmed GIs products.
Reportedly, 28 Chinese GIs tea products were among the first on the protection list of the China-EU agreement on geographical indications. Jasmine tea of Hengxian County was one of four products of Guangxi selected. To this day, the brand value of Hengxian County's jasmine tea has increased from 7,971 million yuan and 15,236 million yuan, taking the 22nd place in the top 100 GIs products with regional brand value. Next, the jasmine tea of the county will take this opportunity to enter the EU market, step up its international influence and competitiveness, and boost the development of the county's jasmine tea industry around the globe.
