It is recently reported that Zhongshan Village of Yongning District in Nanning has been developing sericulture in a scientific way under the guidance of Lai Yunsheng and helping villagers increase their income.
As Lai Yunsheng is skilled at rearing silkworms and producing good quality cocoons which reach the five-star standard, his selling price can be 2 to 3 yuan/jin higher than that of the market price. According to Lai Yunsheng, there is a batch of silkworms of 150 jin with a high cocoon-binding rate recently, which is expected to sell for about 18 yuan/jin, with an income of nearly 3,000 yuan after being sold. If there are 12 or 13 batches of such silkworms a year, the annual income of silkworm rearing will be 30,000 or 40,000 yuan. Lai Yunsheng also cooperates with Qixing Silkworm Cooperative to invest in the construction of a “Silkworm-rearing Training Base for Farmers in Poor Villages of Nanning”. To be specific, the facilities in the base include large silkworm rooms, small silkworm rooms and mulberry leaf rooms, with a total investment of 150,000 yuan, 30% of which invested by Lai Yunsheng and 70% by the Cooperative. By making sericulture farmers observe the operation on the spot and learn the sericulture technology and operation processes, the farmers can avoid detours or mistakes but increase their income.
