Recently, the China (Guangxi) - ASEAN New Vegetable Variety Expo 2020 opened at the Guangxi regional experimental station for crop varieties at the national level in Nanning, with 1,010 excellent new vegetable varieties from 79 domestic and foreign enterprises, including 34 varieties from ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand. The expo runs until June 10 and is open to the public free of charge.
It is reported that the expo has been held for four consecutive years, with a total of 4,564 vegetable varieties on display. Driven by the expo, the vegetable industry in Guangxi has maintained a sustained and sound development. In 2019, the planting area of vegetables in the region reached 22.277 million mu, with a year-on-year growth of 3.2%. The production was about 36.364 million tons, with 5.9% of year-on-year increase. The output value reached 98 billion yuan, with an increase of 8.06% year on year. The expo plays an important role in stabilizing vegetable production, promoting the vegetable industry for poverty alleviation and increasing farmers' income continuously. In addition, through the platform effect of the expo, new varieties of agricultural products from China and ASEAN countries have realized mutual trade, and more and more new varieties of Chinese agricultural products have been grown in ASEAN countries.
