Recently, 18 scientists and technicians from the Institute of Horticulture of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences came to Yan’an Town, Jiangnan District, Nanning, to conduct the acceptance inspection on the watermelons planted by the Biyu Watermelon Farmers’ Professional Cooperative.
It is reported that this is another supporting activity conducted by Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences since its substantive scientific and technological support for agriculture in Yan’an Town in the past 11 years. With the strong support and assistance of the Institute of Horticulture of Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the cooperative has maintained a healthy development momentum. At present, it has planted 6,000 mu of watermelons, with the annual output of nearly 6 million kilograms. They have been sold to more than 10 cities and counties both inside and outside the region, with the annual income of more than 10 million yuan. In addition to watermelon cultivation, the cooperative has also planted 18 mu of anti-season vegetables such as cabbage, green pepper and water spinach in the greenhouse base. At present, the cooperative is planning to continue to grow seasonal vegetables after the watermelon harvest this season, so as to provide various organic vegetables on people’s dining tables.
