Southbound Channel of China-Singapore Interconnection Project expands scope of cooperation


On June 3, it was learned from Management Bureau of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Strategic Interconnection Demonstration Project that at the China (Qinghai) International Carpet Exhibition that is being held, 4 provinces (cities or regions) namely Chongqing, Guangxi, Guizhou, and Gansu have signed the “Memorandum of the Working Mechanism for Qinghai Province to Join the Construction of the Southbound Channel of the China-Singapore Interconnection Project” with Qinghai Province, marking the integration of Qinghai Province into the joint construction of "Southbound Channel" working mechanism, and the scope of the "Southbound Channel" cooperation has been further expanded.

The China-Singapore (Chongqing) Strategic Interconnection Demonstration Project is the third inter-governmental cooperation project between China and Singapore. The “Southbound Channel” is a logistics channel for international trade created by the relevant provinces in western area and ASEAN countries under the framework of the project. The channel uses railways, highways, water transport, aviation and other transportation methods. From Chongqing via Guizhou and other places, through the Guangxi Beibu Gulf and other coastal border ports, it reaches the main logistics nodes of Singapore and ASEAN, saving about 15 days than the sea transportation through the eastern region, and it has become a convenient channel for sea transportation in the western area.
