The landform of Nanning could be divided into five types: flat ground, low mountains, tor, hills and tableland.
Flat ground is the largest landform type in Nanning, with an area of 1,037.33 square kilometers, accounting for 57.78% of the city's total area, and is distributed at the confluence of the Zuojiang River and Youjiang River and the banks of the Yongjiang River. The total area of the low mountains is 82.64 square kilometers, accounting for 4.6% of the total area, and mainly spreads over the Fenghuang Mountain which stands on the west edge of the city. Tor covers an area of 46.7 square kilometers, accounting for 2.61% of the total area, and is mainly distributed in the northwestern edge and Tanluo Town with two major types: mountainous tor and single mountain tor. The total area of the hills is 279.86 square kilometers, consisting of 15.59% of the total area. Most of the tableland is the erosive surface of the tertiary system, and is slightly cutting and undulating. It is a low and plain ancient plane of denudation, generally showing a landform that is little hilly and with flat tops.
