Located in Chahuayuan Road, Golden Camellia Park used to be Xinzhu Nursery Garden. Held in high regard as “Empress of camellia family”, golden camellia enjoys great popularity in the world. Because Guangxi is the home of golden camellia, Nanning started studies on the introduction and propagation of the wild resources of golden camellia since the end of 1970s, and set up a gene bank in the original Xinzhu nursery garden. Being the first special park for planting golden camellia and the largest camellia gene bank in China as well as in the world, the park will have a significant impact on environmental research and preservation worldwide as well as on the commercial exploitation of the golden camellia. The park covers an area of 23.8 hectares, with a total investment of 21.56 million yuan. Golden camellia planting among camellia-family plants to highlight its features, the park is covered with plants while separated and integrated with winding stream and fluctuating mild slopes. The architecture in the park possesses modern features and garden characteristics typical of southern China. At present there are 21 species of golden camellias which are unique to the province, and several hundred flowering trees. Planted in the Park are 65 species of camellia, 13 species of oil camellia, 24 species of golden camellia and one species of camellia for drinking, altogether over 5,800 trees.
