Binyang County


Binyang County is located in central south Guangxi and northeast Nanning with Guigang City to its east, Hengxian County and Qingxiu District to its south, Xingning District and Wuming County to its west and Shanglin County and Laibin City to its north. It covers an area of 2308 sq. km2 and its county government is stationed in Binzhou Town. As an important transportation hub in central Guangxi, Hu’nan-Guangxi Railway, Litang-Zhanjiang Railway, Litang-Qinzhou Railway connect to each other in Litang Town of Binyang. Litang Railway Station is the second largest cargo marshalling station and Class 1 passenger station in Guangxi. Besides, Guilin-Beihai Expressway, Nanning-Wuzhou highway (or national highway #324), Nanning-Liuzhou highway (national highway #322) run through Binyan, and 2 Class 2 highways link Binyang to Hengxian and Shanglin respectively.

Tourism resources in Binyang include Kunlun Pass Battle site, Cai’s ancient residence in Gula Town, Cheng Siyuan’s old residence and museum, Jinkeng Valley rafting in Chenping Town, Binzhou Ancient Town, Baihe Temple bamboo forest tourist resort and Xiangsi Lake tourist resort. Firecrackers Dragon Day on the 11th day of the first lunar month every year has been inscribed in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list and attracted many visitors every year. Besides, float parade and sixian opera are included in provincial intangible cultural heritage list.

Binyang has mineral resources such as tungsten, molybdenum, bismuth, copper, lead, zinc, aluminum, gold, lime stone, arsenopyrite, and granite. Specialties include porcelain, leather, hardware, Zhuang brocade, lotus and rice. It’s the national rice production base and Guangxi’s “home of hardware”. It has Litang and Binzhou industrial centers. In 2010, it had under its jurisdiction 15 towns, 1 township, 193 administrative villages, 40 communities and 1880 sub-villages. The total registered population by the end of 2010 was 1.0513 million, including 901,200 people with rural household registration and 150,100 people with urban registration. The rate of natural increase was 9.24. The arable land area was 55,600 hectares, including 33,600 hectares of rice field. Forest covers 82,600 hectares with the forest coverage rate of 38.1%. Binyang’s GDP was 11.142 billion yuan and the total fiscal revenue reached 809 million yuan including the general local fiscal budgetary revenue of 498 million yuan whereas the general budgetary expenditures amounted to 1.551 billion yuan. Urban citizens’ disposable income per capita was 16,210 yuan and farmers’ net income per capita was 5209 yuan.
