In 2002, Nanning had 34 vocational and technical schools, among them 10 were state-run and 24 were private schools with a total enrollment of 16,300 students. The new enrollment of that year was 7,049, accounting 107% of the planned enrollment. In the year 2002, Nanning made great efforts to regulate the operation of private schools by formulating and carrying out the evaluation system for private schools and establishing Nanning Municipal Association of Private Education. At the same time, it improved the teaching and teachers training of vocational education by setting up Nanning Municipal Vocational Education Society and sending 4 principals and 18 teachers for training. In addition, Nanning standardized the teaching programs, did a good job in student enrollment; actively promoted comprehensive education reform; and appraised key secondary vocational schools of Guangxi in Nanning. Such efforts were repaid in July 2002 when the Municipal Education Bureau was invited as a guest member for the National Conference of Vocational Education and won the title of ¡°National Advanced Unit of Vocational Education¡±
