Up to 2002, Nanning had 3 special education schools. They were School for the Blind, Deaf and Mute, School of Children Intelligence Cultivation and School for the Deaf, Mute and Mentally Retarded of Yongning County, with a total enrollment of 300 students. Besides, in normal primary schools, 12 classes had been set up to facilitate mentally retarded children. Over 900 handicapped children attended school with normal children. And the school attendance rate of handicapped kids aged from 7 to 15 was 89%, meeting the standard of popularizing nine-year compulsory education.
