Beihai, with the reputation of East Hawaii, is famous for its marine treasure, sea forest, seabed coral, ocean culture, water entertainments and marine course.
Located in the south end of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and on the northeast bank of Beibu Gulf, Beihai is the only costal city among five minority autonomous regions in China. With one county and three districts, Beihai has the total administration area of 3337 square kilometers, land area of 3310 square kilometers. Of the total, the city area is 957 square kilometers (including Weizhou and Xieyang Islands). The city proper of Beihai covers an area of about 40 square kilometers with the costal line of 500.13km and the population of 1.354 million with 479,500 people living in the city.
Surrounded by the sea, Beihai is rich in marine resources. The pearls as well as the aquatic products of sleeve-fishes, prawns, trepang, sandworm, shelled shrimps, shark fins and eels are well-known in the world. Beihai is one of the famous costal cities in China.
The annual average temperature of Beihai is 22.6ˇăC and there is no severe winter and sweltering summer as it is in sub-tropical area with a mild climate. Actually Beihai is an ideal famous scenic spot for holidays, convalesces and sightseeing, etc.
The Silver Beach of Beihai was ranked as one of the 12 costal tourist cities of China in 1992.
