It is one of the significant massive agricultural produces in Nanning, thus named after because it was first marketed in Wuxu Town of Yongning County. Its marketing season is from April to May. Wuxu watermelons are sold nationwide with the mainstream of all the small and medium cities in the north. In recent years, its growing area has been divergently enlarged from Wuxu, Suxu, and Yan’an to other surrounding places, making one of the largest national watermelon supplying bases with an annual growing area of 20,000 hectares and an annual production of nearly 350,000,000 kg. Many varieties of watermelon were grown in this area, and they gradually developed into three series: with “new red treasure”-leading the big watermelon series, “black beauty”- leading the small watermelon series, and the seedless watermelon series including “Guangxi No.3”, “Guangxi No.6” and “Heimi No.3”. With hard rind and red crisp flesh, Wuxu Watermelon is refreshingly sweet and its quality is excellent. The constant introduction of new varieties and new growing technologies from Taiwan have helped the local farmers develop their own advanced growing technologies, which, with its suitable climate, make it possible to supply watermelons through the period from April to December.
