Longan is also known as ¡°Guiyuan¡±. With its crystal-like flesh, it tastes tender and sweet, by no means inferior to litchi. A poem by Su Dongpo, a renowned poet in the Song Dynasty, describes it like this: ¡°Two similar varieties are longan and litchi. Coming from the same origin, they look as alike as orange and tangerine. To say which of them is better is not easy.¡± It can be consumed fresh or be made into canned fruit or dried Guiyuan and dried longan, which is a good tonic.
