Huapao Festival is a grand traditional holiday for Dong people and part of Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao and Mulao people. It is held every year or every three years, and the day to celebrate Huapao Festival varies in different districts. Usually it is held during Spring Festival or San Yue San Singing Festival in the open field, and in most cases it is held during Spring Festival, or in autumn. The districts where people have a long tradition in celebrating Huapao Festival include Fulu in Sanjiang Dong autonomous county (where the festival is held on March 3rd of Lunar calendar), Meilin (on February 2nd of Lunar calendar), Chengyang (on January 3rd of Lunar calendar), Doujiang (on February 15th of Lunar calendar), Linxi(on October 26th of Lunar calendar), Guzhaijie in Bei Village of Liucheng County (on March 3rd of Lunar calendar), Dongtou in Rongshui Miao autonomous county (on February 2nd of Lunar calendar), and Fengtang in Linshan County(from January 2nd to January 15th of Lunar calendar). The major activity in Huapao Festival is the competition of scrambling for Huapao.
