Situated in Baixu Town, Shanglin County, this village is renowned at home and abroad for its valuing and advocating of education. The historical site, the Bugu Academy, can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty. At present, in this small village with only some 500 people, more than 170 are educated in colleges and universities, thus being eulogized as ¡°Zhuangyuan [Number One Scholar, title conferred on the one who came first in the highest imperial examination]Village in Lingnan¡±. From 1988 to the present, it has been entitled provincial ¡°Double Civilized Village¡± for ten years Also, the Ministry of Publicity listed it as one of the ¡°National Demonstrative Civilized Village of Creating Comfortable Life¡± in 1988.
In the past decades, the unique culture and human landscape of Bugu Village attracted numerous visitors, among who are experts and scholars from Japan, Thailand and about 10 other different countries. In addition, its pretty scenery also makes it a real leisure destination.
