General Survey
In 2005, Nanning¡¯s total volume of import and export reached 719 million USD, up 13.03% over the previous year. Of this total, the value of export was US$577 million, an increase of 10.1% (the value of export of US$284 million completed by enterprises of Nanning, up 8.04%), and the value of import rose 26.74% to US$142 million (US$79.21million completed by enterprises of Nanning, a rise of 18.52 %), resulting in a trade surplus of US$435 million. There were 224 enterprises newly registered for record and qualified for foreign trade right, and at the end of the year, the accumulative number of enterprises with import and export right was 763. By category, 602 enterprises were engaged in foreign trade, taking up 78.9% of the total, 161 in production, accounting for 21.1%; while in terms of natures of the enterprises, there were 653 private enterprises, making up 85.6% of the total, 103 state-owned enterprises, accounting for 13.5%, and 7 ¡°three forms of foreign-invested enterprises¡± (Sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative businesses and wholly foreign-funded enterprises in China), accounting for 0.9%. All in all, 350 enterprises attained remarkable achievements in import and export, of which 283 enterprises did a good job in export (25 of which had an export of over three million USD), and 67 enterprises in import (7 of which had an import of three million USD or above).
Export Trade
In 2005, Nanning¡¯s export volume hit 577 million USD, 284 million USD of which was completed by enterprises of Nanning. The commodities with larger export volume were rosin, wooden clothes-hangers, canned fruits and vegetables, food additives, toothbrushes, farm vehicles, walking tractors, garments, trichloroiminocyanuric acid, aluminum foils, fertilizers, daily necessities, handicrafts woven by rattan and bamboo, etc. The primary importers of the above products were countries or regions such as European Union, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), the USA, Japan and Hong Kong.
Import Trade
In 2005, Nanning¡¯s import volume stood at 142 million USD, 79.21 million USD of which was completed by enterprises of Nanning. Excavators, chemical products and salt were the major imported products, which were mainly purchased from countries or regions such as EU, Australia, the USA and Taiwan.
Processing Trade with Materials
In 2005, Nanning obtained 148 processing trade businesses, 46 of which were newly approved processing trade contracts (23 processing contracts with supplied materials and 23 with imported materials). The total volume of import and export under the contracts of processing trade was 82.63 million USD. There were 34 enterprises engaged in processing trade with supplied or imported materials, 9 of which were enterprises with supplied materials, mainly producing pearls, architectural hardware, daily-use plastics, garments, leather working gloves and natural rubbers, and 25 of which were enterprises with imported materials, primarily producing garments, plastic products for daily use, food machinery, disproportionated rosin, disposable diapers and cosmetics. The total export volume of finished products under processing contracts of supplied materials was 11.53 million USD, up 13.2% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, while that under processing contracts of imported materials rocketed 45.3% to 14 million USD.
Import and Export of Mechanical and Electrical Products
In 2005, the import and export volume of mechanical and electrical products by enterprises of Nanning reached 105 million USD, up 62.8 percent year on year. Of this total, export volume amounted to 55.06 million USD, accounting for 19.4% of the total export volume by enterprises of Nanning; import volume was 49.46 million USD, a growth of 76.6%; the export volume of locally produced mechanical and electrical products reached as much as 45.99 million USD, taking up 83.5% of the total export volume of mechanical and electrical products by enterprises of Nanning. The major exported mechanical and electrical products were diesel-powered trucks, cables, and auto parts and accessories, and they were primarily exported to ASEAN, Japan, EU, Australia, the USA, and Hong Kong.
Export of Chemical and the Related Industrial Products
In 2005, the export volume of chemical and the related industrial products by enterprises of Nanning was 80.53 million USD, a growth of 90.05% on year-on-year basis, accounting for 28.4% of the total. The major exported chemical and related industrial products were rosin, trichloroiminocyanuric acid, urea and amino acid, and they were primarily exported to EU, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan.
In 2005, the export volume of light industrial products and handicraft by enterprises of Nanning amounted to 73.87 million USD, an increase of 16.73% over the same period of the previous year, taking up 26.0% of the total. The primary exported light industrial products were wooden clothes-hangers, rattan craftwork, leather products and toilet paper, which were mainly exported to EU, the USA, ASEAN and Hong Kong.
Export of Textiles and Garments
In 2005, the export volume of textiles by enterprises of Nanning was 29.33 million USD, rising 4% on year-on-year basis, accounting for 10.3% of the total. The major exported textiles were garments and its accessories, and spinning yarns and its products, which were mainly exported to EU, the USA, ASEAN, and Hong Kong.
Export of Food and Local Farm Produce
In 2005, local farm produce exported by enterprises of Nanning was 31.74 million USD, a growth of 13.55% on year-on-year basis, accounting for 11.2% of the total. The main exported food and local & animal products were canned fruits and vegetables, frozen food, tung oil, gingers and fodder, which were mainly exported to the USA, ASEAN, Japan, Macao and Hong Kong.
Export of Hardware and Mineral Products
In 2005, the export volume of the hardware and mineral products by enterprises of Nanning stood at 18.62 million USD, up 74.42% on year-on-year basis, accounting for 6.6% of the total. The major exported hardware and mineral products were
barites,
power, cements, china tableware, and float glasses, which were exported to the USA, ASEAN, EU and Japan.
